Meta (a.ka. Facebook) has a tracking system that enables it to monitor visitor behavior on your website so it can automatically optimize your ads. To make this work, you need a Meta ‘pixel' code on your site. Here's how you can create a pixel and get it added to your website.
To do this correctly, first, you will need to complete a number of steps on the Meta platform:
- Create a Meta Business Portfolio following the instructions here: Create a Business Portfolio
- Create a Meta Pixel (now known as a “dataset”) following the instructions here: Create a Meta Pixel with a Business Portfolio
- When you get to the “How to set up your pixel” section on the page in step 2, complete steps 1-3 in that section.
- When you get to step 4, “Click Set up Meta Pixel”, and choose the option to install the pixel code manually.
- Copy the entirety of the pixel base code by clicking the “Copy Code” button, then STOP.
You don't need to follow the rest of their instructions for manual setup on your website, our Technical Support team will do this for you.
But you do need to send our Tech Support team your pixel code and ask them to do this for you. - Now, save the pixel code: open a notepad app on your computer, paste the base pixel code into it, and save it as a text file somewhere on your computer where you'll be able to find it later.
- In your email app, compose a new email to [email protected]. Include in it:
- “Please install my Meta pixel code on my website” in the subject line
- In the body of the email, tell us the domain name of the website you want the pixel code installed on.
- VERY IMPORTANT: attach the file with the full pixel code (from step 6 above) to the email and send it.
- In Meta Events Manager, you can cancel out of the rest of the pixel installation process.
Here are some additional recommended tasks to consider completing for your Business Portfolio:
- If you have not yet created a Page for your business, you may create it inside of your business portfolio. Follow these instructions to do that: Create a New Page in Business Manager
- If you have created a Page for your business already, you may want to add it into you business portfolio. Follow these instructions to do that: Add a Page to a business portfolio
- Create an ad account in your Business Manager for your business portfolio: Add an ad account to your business portfolio

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT:
If you plan to run ads on Meta/Facebook, you need to be certain that you understand their advertising policies. We highly recommend that you read through all of their standards and policies so you do not get surprised by ad rejections or ad account suspensions.
